Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community located in the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. Most people who do not know this name believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually the West Island includes everything westward from Montreal, including the town of Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was not long. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dance colleagues. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was at 6'1 inches tall. Once I had outgrown my male counterparts I stopped. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher which pushed her into the right direction. Her teacher suggested she audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. After a few auditions it, she was cast as the lead for Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel was offered roles in more than 60 productions across both screens, receiving the most media attention, when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor to appear in Season 1 which was only seen on occasion.
